But take it from us, you can find plenty of great coffee shops, and cafes without breaking the bank, or driving all over town to find the perect venue. We’ve compiled a list of the best coffee shops and cafes in Palmdale, complete with locations, for your convenience. Wandering around town can be fun, but not when there’s caffeine at stake!

Country Cafe – If you’re visiting the area from the southern states, then you’ll love Country Cafe. Its warm atmosphere, and welcoming sense of relaxation are in direct contrast to the unfamiliar, busy territory of Southern California. Located at 2211 E Palmdale Blvd # A, the Country Cafe offers various daily specials, but more than that; a chance to talk with locals, and experience a little bit of the small town, in a big town. For breakfast, we recommend one of their fantastic omelets or biscuits and gravy; they have the biggest reputation!

Greenhouse Cafe – When we think of “cafe” we don’t usually picture the Greenhouse Cafe; it looks a little too fancy to be casual dining, and coffee friendly. Located at 1233 W Rancho Vista Blvd in Palmdale, this particular restaurant has a sturdier reputation that its other chain members; the Greenhouse Cafe in Lancaster is reputed to be “dirty”. The menu features a lot of fruits, salads, and vegetarian friendly dishes, as well as pasta; their tag line is “Fresh Food Fast!” However, meat eaters, don’t let that stop you. There are soups, sandwiches, and everything you should expect from a cafe; i.e., don’t expect there to to be an expansive dinner selection. Instead, Greenhouse Cafe is an excellent destination for lunch!

La Perk Gourmet Coffee & Beans – Gourmet coffee is hard to find; yes, it’s true, in So-Cal, the Starbucks industry is in full swing, however, it can be difficult finding true gourmet coffee, that isn’t necessarily produced in masses for consumers, frothing at the mouth, and racing for the mall. La Perk isn’t widely known, so it might be an interesting treat for coffee lovers to check it out; especially if you’re a coffee connoisseur. It’s located at 1233 W Rancho Vista Blvd in Palmdale; don’t forget, if you do try it, be sure to write a review online!

Another couple of coffee shops that might “perk” your interest, are Kelly’s Coffee & Fudge, located at Ste 129, 24201 Valencia Blvd, and instead of in Palmdale, it’s actually just nearby, in Santa Clarita. But the drive is worth it, even if all you ever do is pick up the scent of coffee and fudge made together, in the same kitchen. Another popular coffee shop option for caffeine aficionados is Westerfield’s Coffee Shop; another mysterious venue, located at 300 W. Palmdale Blvd. in Palmdale. Sonora Brewhouse – Phoenix Restaurant Review – Pub – Bar – Beer

The Sonora Brewhouse is the epitome of a good, clean, moderate, Phoenician pub/restaurant. Which means that I was really hoping for more. I was hoping that this place would be a little lived in, a little less polished, a little less new Phoenix. It’s kind of odd that big box chain food spots work at trying to get that aged look by throwing junk up on the walls and hanging it from the ceilings. Not at the Sonora Brewhouse, they’ll have none of that here, but that’s okay.

Yes, they brew their own beers and yes it’s good and more than decent. The food is better than average and always cooked. Even when you ask for your Kobe burger to be cooked medium with the hope that you’ll see some red, it’ll come out with no pink at all. Sadly, I wasn’t expecting anything different.

Do I sound disappointed? Do I sound like I’m sitting in a box of self pity? Oh woe is me, they FULLY cooked my burger. Oh woe is me, the beer is good and the steak fries have the perfect crispness on the outside and mashy-goodness on the inside. The quality at Sonora Brewhouse is what I expect at any of the big box chain restaurants like Gordon Biersch, but never get. The problem here is that they can be so much more. Food + Ambiance (personality) = Greatness. Sonora Brewhouse is missing the heart.

They’re polite and not offensive in anyway, walking the definition of middle.

This is both surprising and disappointing since they have been around for a while, but also because just a block to the east, Rosie McCaffrey’s is overflowing with heart and soul, more than you can imagine. If they can find it, tourists probably love Sonora, but remember, tourists often love going to another branch of the same TGI Friday’s that they have in their own suburbia, while on vacation in a different town.

Okay, so Sonora Brewhouse isn’t anywhere near the low level of a TGI Friday’s, but it’s almost as clean, boring, and devoid of personality, being almost completely unmemorable. Oh. They also probably have the thinnest Kobe burger patties I’ve ever seen, at least the steak fries and beer are good. My advice? Go a block east to Rosie McCaffrey’s and actually have a good time worth remembering.

Family Friendly Buffet Brunches in Orange County, CA

Our family loves brunch. Sometimes it’s hard to please everyone’s desires-that’s why we usually wind up at a spot that serves buffet style. We have a myriad of age groups, food allergies and diets that need to be addressed. I suspect our family is more the norm than the exception. The following are ones that seem to have something for all-from the salt free, the calorie-conscious, the dairy-free, those who prefer vegetarian, and those who want to try things that they just can’t get everywhere.

True, El Torito and El Torito Grill are chain restaurants, but they have many choices, including omelet and taco/fajita bars. Fresh fruits, salads and a variety of desserts abound. An added bonus, kids seem to love the place, maybe it’s the balloons, the colors or the mariachi bands that stroll by the tables, but when my kids were little, then my niece and nephew came along they always behaved like little angels the entire time we were there.

Las Brisas in Laguna Beach. Yes, it’s a bit pricey, but there are plenty of choices, the views of the Pacific are gorgeous and if you promise the kids that a walk to the beach follows, they’re sure to eat and let you do the same. Plus there are art galleries, museums and funky little boutiques all around.

Another upscale spot that has live music during the buffet brunch time is Salt Creek Grille. Kids of all ages love this added feature. The food is great, so why not treat yourselves?

If you don’t mind waiting until 11, Onami’s at the Laguna Hills Mall has a wonderful amount of choices. They have well over a dozen types of sushi, some sashimi, numerous salads, as well as hot dishes and a fruit and dessert bar. Very family orientated.

Last and most expensive is the Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues in Anaheim. While the down home cooking is plentiful, it’s average in taste. What makes this a stand out is the wonderful entertainment! The music is uplifting and exciting. Wonderful if your family is celebrating a special birthday, anniversary or other monumental occasion!

Fortunately for men, there still are places where you can order a huge steak for example. They do not offer meat only. But unlike trendy restaurants world wide, the restaurants on this list won’t offer you “girly” food. When in the States, you must take your man to one of those listed below.

1. Franciscan Crab Restaurant (San Francisco, CA)

The restaurant has great view of the Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. This one is for seafood lovers. If you like oysters, crab, seafood antipasti, mussels…this restaurant is the right choice you. Sea bass is also a must try.

Discover Mijares Mexican Restaurant In Pasadena California

Mijares Mexican Restaurant in Pasadena, California is extremely well known for two things, their margaritas and their all you can eat Sunday champaign buffet brunch, both of which are excellent. This restaurant has been around for what seems like forever and has developed a crowd of very loyal patrons.

Although it is justly well known for it’s Sunday buffet, this is a good place to dine in at any time. Their food is always fresh and well prepared and their service is usually above average. The atmosphere is casual, relaxed and friendly and their prices are very reasonable.

Every once in a while someone will tell me that the food here is not authentic Mexican cuisine (most of these people, by the way, are not Mexican or Hispanic and have never been to Mexico). When I ask them why they feel that the food is not authentic, they say that the food is not spicy or hot enough. They say that Mexican food is very hot because of all the chili that is added during cooking. Well, I have news for those people, not all Mexicans like their food extra spicy and many that do enjoy it hot like to add their chili while they are eating. Every Mexican that I know who has eaten here likes the way the food is prepared and likes the chilis and salses that are served with the food. My son, who is one half Mexican, likes his food hot, the hotter the better, yet this is one of his favorite Mexican restaurants. He says that neither the food nor the salsas can compare with those prepared by his mother or grandmother but they are better those served in most Mexican restaurants that he has been to.
I have been a fan of Mexican cuisine since I met my wife in 1966. I do not like hot or very spicey food but I do like well prepared food with good flavor. I do not think that anyone can cook better than my wife, however we both like to go out to eat and we both enjoy good Mexican restaurants. While there are some Mexican restaurants that I prefer over Mijares, none of them are in Pasadena.

The Sunday brunch at Mijares is very good and at $16.95 per person is very cheap. Some people I know drink that much in free champaign and mimosas. If you are not that much into Mexican food the buffet also has eggs, hash browns, bacon, ham and delicious ribs. Their omelet chef makes excellent omelets and definitely doesn’t stint on the ingredients. If you are into Mexican food they serve menudo, fajitas, various types of tacos, enchiladas, carnitas, rice, beans and more. They have a nice variety of desserts including flan and plenty of fruit.

Mijares has a fairly small but well stocked bar. It seems, however that almost everyone goes there for the margaritas which are inexpensive, generously proportioned and made with good quality tequila. The bartenders are friendly and the patrons at the bar always seem to be part of one big party.

Mijares Mexican Restaurant is a family owned restaurant and is located in it’s own hacienda style building at 145 Palmetto Drive, Pasadena, California. It has plenty of free and valet parking except on Friday and Saturday nights when it seems as if almost everybody in the San Gabriel Valley is there partying, eating, drinking margaritas and listening to mariachi music.

Downey’s Is Way Up In The Chocolate Biz In Orange County, CA

There’s a new place for chocolate lover’s in Orange County-Downey’s in Laguna Niguel. Tucked away behind a Sou plantation in a strip mall of little merit, Downey’s is a delightful find.

All the chocolates are made with premium cocoa and are handmade. One of the neat things about Downey’s-they have a viewing area to watch the labor intense, yet lovingly done artistry, being done. Most days there are over 30 varieties on display to enjoy.

A new venue, it is deftly run by a youthful group of people who are proud of the first place awards they have garnered for their raspberry symphony truffle and several other high places for several other tasty morsels. One came in third out of 900 entries at a recent chocolatier convention held in Las Vegas. I can attest to the more than deserved first place award for the raspberry symphony! It is one of their vegan pieces. It has dark chocolate on the outside and an almost liquid fresh raspberry filling on the inside. Best to pop the tidbit into your mouth all at once and savor the melding of the flavors.

I also tried the dark chocolate and marzipan truffle. Quite unlike others with the same filling-this marzipan was fresh, soft and melt in your mouth perfection. I would have loved to have tried many others-lavender vanilla, strawberry balsamic symphony, but alas they will await my next trip in!

My husband decided on trying some of Downey’s imported hand made gelato. He was impressed to find that it came from a supplier in Las Vegas, who imported every single ingredient straight from Italy. The helpful staff told my husband he could taste as many of the varieties as he’d like. He tried 5 little spoons and then filled one of the take home insulated containers with 3 of his top choices. Hand packed!

And that isn’t all Downey’s has to offer. They serve gourmet crepes for breakfast-9 of the sweet variety, 3 of the savory. Gourmet coffees and teas are also freshly brewed and served. Hot chocolate and smoothies are also available.

Having preceded our visit with a surfing of their website, it mentioned they also served daily salad and sandwich specials. However, when we arrived the selections for the afternoon were already gone. So if you are planning a lunch-dessert outing, best to phone ahead to make sure of what is available.

Downey’s has another thing going for it-sure to be a real hit! They host private birthday parties, bridal or baby showers, team fund-raisers and if you really want to learn more about chocolate making-sign up for their chocolatier classes.

They also do wedding and party favors-customizing the gifts to your special tastes.

The best part, besides the personalized service and quality of the chocolate, was the fact that even me with a dairy allergy had quite a few vegan choices to enjoy-which is a rare occurrence in most other places of the same kind. It was fun to watch the candy-makers do their stuff in front of us and enjoy the intimate atmosphere in this new shop.

Ridge Creek Golf Course, Dinuba, CA Review

The newest golf course in California’s central valley opened in July 2008 to rave reviews. Designed by Arizona-based John Fought, the par 72 upscale muni is a heathland style course similar to those found in England. Owned by the city of Dinuba, the course incorporates natural grasses and strategically placed bunkers to approximate the contour of the valley floor before farmers turned dessert into an agricultural oasis. The course as specifically designed to use reclaimed water from the city and uses state-of-the-art irrigation to maintain the native grasses and shrubs and playing areas.

Scenically, the course is close to the Sierra Nevada foothills, peach orchards and other farmland. An “arts-and-crafts” style clubhouse complete with an outdoor fireplace, large covered patio and well stocked pro shop complement a full service restaurant. The 360 degree practice range features one of the largest driving ranges west of the Rockies.

Ridge Creek’s hole 15 is one of the longest par 5 holes in California measuring out at a massive 653 yards and is titled appropriately, “Trajedy.”

The course features over 125 bunkers. And they’re all strategically placed to guard fairways, approaches, greens, wayward shots, etc. Personally, I think I’ve been in every damn one of them! At least twice! Some of the bunkers are nearly impossible to get out of due to the overhanging grass, depth of the bunker and fluffy white sand.

There are blind shots due to sloping terrain and partially hidden greens. And look out for those hidden bunkers!

I think the most important feature is the complete lack of trees. Fairways are so designated by waste areas with bushes, ground cover, Buffalo grass, etc. Keep your eye on the ball on wayward shots because there aren’t any trees to knock it down!

Stay in the fairways and out of the bunkers and the course is very manageable and playable. The course is very well maintained with few burned grass areas due to the summer sun.

It plays long and on hot valley summer days (110* days are standard in July and August) be sure to bring lots of water. The sun can be brutal so headwear and sunscreen are musts.

Distances: From California’s Central Coast about 2:30 hours. San Francisco Bay Area about 2-3 hours. Southern California maybe 4-5 hours.

Range: First class! Practice green closely approximates the contour and speed of most of the greens.

Pro Shop: Full pro shop and restaurant. Friendly employees.

Five (or less) Word Description: Challenging, championship-caliber, enjoyable, hot in summer, adequate pace.

Weekend Rates (18 holes): $61 greens, $14 cart, $75 combo

Monday-Friday: $41 greens, $14 cart, $55 combo

Pull carts: $5

Rating (1-5 stars): 4.5 stars – the only drawback is the heat of the summer sun.

BD’s Mongolian Grill Review

BD’s Mongolian Grill has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants to visit. You may be wondering what exactly BD’s Mongolian Grill has to offer. Basically, you walk in and you’re seated by a friendly host or hostess. They start off by asking you if you have been to the restaurant, and if not will give you the run down in the steps it will take to get your meal. Just make sure as you glance at the food when you walk in, you realize there are uncooked meats up at the buffet. If you go and fill your plate with food without promptly stopping by the cook at his round-table of food incineration, then you obviously are hungry, and may prefer to take a night-cap at your local hospital for relief. This definitely would be one expensive food bill. The next time you mention “check please”, the doctor will probably be probing inside your stomach with some form of digestive evacuation device.

To continue on this exciting adventure of food nourishment, BD’s Mongolian Grill not only offers a Mongolian style buffet, but they also have a salad and soup bar if you’re not that prevalent into meats. On the other hand, you could just fill up your one-rounder bowl with baby corns, bamboo, broccoli, pineapple, or any other non-meat foods, gently placed in the buffet only to be disturbed by your savory appetite. Even before you visit the buffet lines, you receive your choice of rice including brown rice, fiesta rice, or white rice and a side of fajita wraps. I actually will wiggle my fajita wraps in front of my main course hoping the meats and vegetables will aimlessly wonder their way onto the flour bed of enticement. Ok, now I’m confused, was I talking about reviewing a restaurant or another type of trip that involved George Washington’s face on the dollar bill?

If youre looking for a great place to relax with an upbeat casual atmosphere, BD’s Mongolian Grill has that very settling family atmosphere with even live music on the weekends. If you have just moved in the Oldsmar area, this would be a great place to meet some new people especially out on the patio area. Every time I have gone to the BD’s restaurant, a manager will always come by and ask me how my experience was from service to food. Knowing that Im a regular to BD’s, this is what keeps me coming back, their great customer service and the food, obviously. Their catchy T-shirt slogan, “We do it on a grill” states as they really cook food on a grill right in front of you, or in my mind, someone is going to need to get to the doctor suffering from 3rd degree burns on their rear end.

Review of Claim Jumper

About a couple of months ago, I first discovered a small restaurant near my house named Claim Jumper. I didn’t think much of this particular restaurant because it didn’t seem special or unique in any way. It reminded me of any other American restaurant such as Applebees or BJ’s bar and grill. However once I went to this restaurant, I was simply amazed. For the price a person pays, they get a very generous proportion of food. On my first visit, I had the chicken apple whiskey stuffing chicken (full size).

The two pieces of chicken are grilled, juicy, and cooked all day. The sauce glazing the chicken was made with chunks of apples and with whiskey. The meal also came with warm, tasty mashed potatoes and biscuits. I was only able to eat half of the meal and left the rest for home. Usually when I take food home and put it in the refrigerator, I don’t want to eat it because I don’t like cold restaurant food. However, warming my meal tasted exactly the same as it was in the restaurant. That was an extra bonus for me. I would highly recommend people to go to Claim Jumper and order the Apply whiskey chicken.

Upon my second visit to Claim Jumper, I was cold and decided to try out a soup. The choices for soup are vegetable, clam chowder, and this cheese-beef chili and you have the option to have order a bread bowl or not. For 8 dollars, I ordered the clam chowder with the bread bowl was huge. It was as big as a large plate and filled with clam chowder. The clam chowder was creamy and thick. Other places serve their clam chowder slightly watery and it lacks taste. However, Claim Jumper makes the 8 dollars you pay worth it. They also offer a bowl of soup without the bread for about 5 dollars. I believe that the bowl of soup is for anyone looking to have a nice appetizer. If anyone lives near a Claim Jumper, I suggest trying out the food.
